Create Homepages

To create a new homepage you will need to be on the Homepages page (Course Admin Homepages). Once there you can create your Homepage as follows:

1. Click the Create Homepage button


From within the Create Homepage screen you will have the following options:

Create Homepage initial options: Name, Description, Type

2. Name: Enter a name for your homepage that uniquely identifies it. You will need to know what you named it later when you set the homepage as active

3. Description: While this field is optional, we suggest typing in a description that identifies what layout and widgets are contained in the homepage (see the screenshot for step 1 above for examples of how the description might be used).

4. Type: From the drop down menu select the type of homepage you would like to create. For the remaining steps click on the link below that corresponds with the type of homepage you are using.

5. Header: This field controls whether a custom title is displayed in the upper left corner of the Course Homepage, just beneath the navigation bar.

  • If you want the course name or a custom title to appear at the top of the course home page leave the Include custom homepage header box checked and enter the desired title or replace string in the text box.
  • If you do not want to included a title on your course homepage uncheck the Include custom homepage header check-box.

6. Change Layout: If you would like to change the structure of the course homepage by indicating the number and sizes of panels used as well as whether or not to include a header and/or footer, click the Change Layout button and complete step 7 below, otherwise, skip to step 8.

7. Place a bullet next to the preferred layout type, then click the Update button.



Please Note: The appearance of the Widgets section will vary depending on the layout you chose in step 7 above, but the process to add widgets to the page is the same regardless of the layout chosen.

8. Click the Add Widgets button within the panel that you would like to place the widget

9. Place a check mark next to each widget you would like to add to the specified panel, then click the Add button when finished.


Save and Close button10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for each panel that you would like to place a widget in. When finished, click the Save and Close button to return to the list of homepages.

Make a D2L tool based homepage

5. Tool: Click the down arrow to select the D2L tool that you would like to set as the course homepage.

 

6. Click the Save and Close button to return to the list of homepages.


Please Note: In order to use your new homepage you will need to make it active. See the Set Active Homepage help page for details on how to do this.

Set Your Homepage to an External Website

5. URL: Enter the web address of the webpage you would like to set as the course homepage.

Tip: Make sure to erase the "http://" in the Url field if pasting a full web address to prevent a duplicate heading in the address, as this will break the URL. (Ex.: http://http://www.google.com will not open properly.)

6. Click the Save and Close button to return to the list of homepages.
