Regrading Quiz Questions

The Update All Attempts option is useful for when you want to award points for a specific question to either all participants, or all participants who answered the question a certain way.

To grade a quiz question for all attempts:

1. Click the down arrow to the right of the quiz you would like to grade and select Grade.

2. You will arrive on the Users tab of the Grade quiz page. To grade by question click the Questions tab.

3. Place a bullet next to the Update all Attempts option.

4. Click on the blue question text of the question you want to grade to open that question.


5. You will arrive on the Update All Attempts page. Next, determine the Grading type you want to use:

 



Give points to all participants

Update All Attempts

 

 

 

6. Ensure the bullet it placed next to Give to all attempts ____ points, then type the number of points you would like to give to all participants for this question.

Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question, refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

7. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

Please Note: Participants can only see question comments if the Submission View settings are configured to allow them to show all questions with  user responses. For more information about configuring quiz submission views visit the Quiz Submission Views help page.

8. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

9. Click Yes on the confirmation window to save the grade modifications made to this question.


10. If you would like to grade additional questions click the Go Back to Questions button to return to the list of questions.

6. Click the link below that corresponds with the question type you are grading for directions specific to that question type.

True or False (T/F)

Grade by Question: True/False question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with answer ____  ____ points option.

8. From the drop down menu, select the answer you would like to give points to (True or False).

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question, refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

11. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

Multiple Choice (MC)

Grade by Question: Multiple Choice question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with answer ____  ____ points option.

8. From the drop down menu, select the answer you would like to give points to (1-4 in the screenshot above).

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question, refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

11. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

Multi-Select (M-S)

Grade by Question: Multi-Select question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with the following selection ____ points option.

8. Place a check mark next to each answer to which you would like to give points.

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question, refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

Please Note: Be sure to account for all possible correct or partially correct answers. Using the above screenshot as an example, if the question was worth 1 point total, you may want to say that answers containing both Tucson, Arizona, AND Sierra Vista, Arizona, should receive 1 point, while answers containing only Tucson, Arizona, OR Sierra Vista, Arizona, should receive 0.5 points. To do this, you would need to check the boxes next to Tucson and Sierra Vista, award 1 point, save this change, then check the box next to Tucson, award 0.5 points, save this change, and finally, check the box next to Sierra Vista, award 0.5 points and click save again.

Long Answer (LA)

Since Long Answer question types are subjective in nature, there isn't a way to award points for specific answers. However, if you would like to award points to all participants for a specific question you can do so as follows:

Grade by Question: Long Answer question

7. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.


Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question, refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

8. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

9. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

Short Answer (SA)

Grade by Question: Short Answer question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with the following answer ____ points option.

8. Type the correct answer in the text field to the left of the Case Insensitive option.

9. Decide whether you want the correct answer to be Case Insensitive, Case Sensitive, or  Regular Expression, then place a bullet next the the desired option. For more information about each of these options see the Evaluation section of the Short Answer Question help page.

10. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

Tip: If you are unsure of the point value to assign to the question refer to the Question Worth section to view the original point value assigned to the question

11. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

12. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

Please Note: If you have multiple words or phrases that are a correct answer and should be given points you will need to repeat steps 7-13 above for each word to which you would like to assign points.

Multi-Short Answer (MSA)

Grade by Question: Multi-Short Answer question

7. Place a bullet in the Attempts that include the following answer. The answer worth is ____ % option.

8. Type the correct answer in the text field corresponding with the part of the question leading up to the blank.

9. Decide whether you want the correct answer to be Case Insensitive, Case Sensitive, or  Regular Expression and place a bullet next the the desired option. For more information about each of these options visit the Multi-Short Answer Question help page and look at the Evaluation section under item 7.

10. From the drop down menu to the left of the % sign select the value (in percentage) that the specified correct answer is worth. This determines what percentage of the points designated in the Question Worth section are awarded to the participant for their answer.

11. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

12. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

14. Repeat steps 7-13 for each additional answer to which you would like to award a percentage of the question point(s).


15. If you would like to grade additional questions click the Go Back to Questions button to return to the list of questions.

Fill in the Blanks (FIB)

Grade by Question: Fill in the Blanks question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with the following answer ____ points option.

8. Type the correct answer in the text field corresponding with the part of the question leading up to the blank. Repeat this for each additional blank you may have in the quiz.

9. Decide whether you want the correct answer to be Case Insensitive, Case Sensitive, or Regular Expression and place a bullet next the the desired option. For more information about each of these options visit the Fill in the Blanks Question help page and look at the Evaluation section under item 7.

10. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for the answer(s) in the text field to the left of the word points.

11. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

12. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

Please Note: If you have multiple blanks in your question the total point value for the question, including all correct answers, should be used in step 10 above.

14. Repeat steps 7-13 for each additional answer for which you would like to award a percentage of the question point(s).


15. If you would like to grade additional questions click the Go Back to Questions button to return to the list of questions.

Matching (MAT)

Grade by Question: Matching question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with the following match ____ points option.

8. Select the choice from the drop down menu that corresponds with the match to the immediate right for which you would like to give points. Repeat this for each additional choice/match pair

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

11. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

13. Repeat steps 7-12 for each additional answer for which you would like to award a percentage of the question point(s).

Please Note: The point value you enter in step 9 above will only apply to participants who answered every choice and match combination as you specified in step 8 above. If you would like to provide partial credit or credit for alternate answers you will need to repeat steps 7-12 above for each way you would like to award full or partial credit for the question.


14. If you would like to grade additional questions click the Go Back to Questions button to return to the list of questions.

Ordering (ORD)

Grade by Question: Ordering question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with the following order ____ points option.

8. Select the number from the drop down menu on the left that corresponds with each phrase on the right for which you would like to give points. Repeat this for each ordering option.

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this collection of answers in the text field to the left of the word points.

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

11. Click Save when you have finished grading this question.

If you would like to provide partial credit or credit for alternate answers you will need to repeat steps 7-12 above for each way you would like to award full or partial credit for the question.

Arithmetic (2+2)

Grade by Question: Arithmetic question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with answer ____ points option.

8. From the drop down menu select from the following options:

  • Results + Units correct: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who both answered the question correctly and used the correct unit of measurement in the answer.
  • Just Results: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who answered the question correctly, disregarding the unit of measurement used.
  • Just Units: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who used the correct unit of measurement, disregarding whether the answer given was correct or not.
  • Both incorrect: Use this option if you want to award points (or to assign a 0) to participants who both answered the questions incorrectly and used the wrong unit of measurement in the answer.

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

Please Note: The point value you enter in step 9 above will only apply to participants who meet the criteria you select in step 8. If you want to assign partial or no credit for an answer based on a different criteria in step 8, you will need to repeat steps 7-12 above for each possible question/answer/point scenario you would like to provide. For example: If you wanted to give 2 points to participants that answered with both the correct answer and unit of measurement, 1.5 points for only the correct answer, 0.5 points for just the correct unit of measurement, and 0 points for missing everything you would have to complete steps 7-12 above four different times, selecting the desired option in step 8 and assigning the corresponding point(s) in step 9 to match the desired points.

Significant Figures (x10)

Grade by Question: Significant Figures question

7. Place a bullet in the Give to attempts with answer ____ points option.

8. From the drop down menu select from the following options:

  • Results + Units correct: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who both answered the question correctly and used the correct unit of measurement in the answer.
  • Just Results: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who answered the question correctly, disregarding the unit of measurement used.
  • Just Units: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who used the correct unit of measurement, disregarding whether the answer given was correct or not.
  • Both incorrect: Use this option if you want to award points (or to assign a 0) to participants who both answered the question incorrectly and used the wrong unit of measurement in the answer.
  • Results + Sig.Figures + Units correct: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who answered the question correctly, used the correct number of significant figures, and used the correct unit of measurement in the answer.
  • Results + Significant Figures: Use this option if you want to award points to participants who both answered the question correctly and used the correct number of significant figures in the answer, while disregarding the unit of measurement used.

9. Enter the number of points you would like to provide for this answer in the text field to the left of the word points.

10. If you would like to enter a comment explaining how you graded this question you can do so in the Comment box.

Please Note: The point value you enter in step 9 above will only apply to participants who meet the criteria you select in step 8. You may opt to specifically assign partial or no credit based on any of the options available in step 8 above. For example: you may opt to give 3 points to participants that answered with the correct answer, correct number of significant figures, and the correct unit of measurement, 2.5 points for the correct answer and correct number of significant figures, 2 points for the correct answer and unit of measurement, 1 point for only the correct answer, 0.5 points for just the correct unit of measurement, and 0 points for missing everything. To do this, you would complete steps 7-12 above six different times, selecting the desired option in step 8 and assigning the corresponding point(s) in step 9 to match the desired points.
