Common Uses

  • Facilitate Student Participation: The Dropbox is primarily a tool used to allow students and instructors to exchange documents pertaining to an assignment.  Many instructors use the Dropbox when they want communication and the exchange of documents to happen privately, between a student or group to the instructor.  Discussions, on the other hand, are a great place for student-to-student interaction, as they can be used by anyone enrolled in the course site.  Instructors can also foster collaboration by building more intimate small group discussion areas.
  • Provide Feedback on Student Work: Written feedback and scores can be made available to students in both the Dropbox and Discussion tools.
  • Coordinate Student Interactions Around Relevant Topics: Dropboxes and Discussion forums can be named anything you wish.  This makes each Dropbox or Discussion space a place to focus on a particular subject or phase of the course.  Many instructors organize their courses topically or chronologically.
