About Edit Course
The Edit Course tool allows you to change certain basic parameters of your course and to modify the NavBar, Files, and Content. You should consult with a D2L consultant before changing the course Name, Info, Tools, or Components. Generally, it is easier to use the edit button in the upper left-hand corner of the NavBar to modify the NavBar and the Manage Files and Manage Content sections of the Content tool to make changes to your course. FAQs stands for Frequently Asked Questions. The FAQ tool allows you to collect and answer common questions that students may have about the course or an individual topic. FAQs can be clustered in categories or simply listed for the student to read through.
The Edit Course tool is broken into 8 different sections:
- Edit Course Offering Information (Course Colors)
- Manage your course files (Upload Files/Folders, Delete files)
- Set up, edit, or enroll users in groups; create group work areas.
- Import course components from a file or copy them from another org unit; export components to a zip file.
- Change the links that appear on the navigation bar or change the colors and background image.
- Set up, edit, or enroll users in sections.
- View user activity for individual users enrolled in this Course Offering, including login history, participation in discussions, content access, and grades.
To access Edit Course, from your Course Homepage, select the Edit Course link at the top of the page in the navigation bar.
You will be taken to the Course Admin Tools, where you will have access to the different edit course tools.

Course Offering Information
The Course Offering Information tool allows you to change the colors used for this course offering, change the location where files are stored, or modify other settings. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Course Offering Information icon.

From the Course Offering Information page, you can change your Sections, Start and End dates, and course Colors. Remember to select the Save button to save your changes and have them applied to your D2L course.

Manage Files
The Manage Files tool allows you to upload and delete files, create folders to organize files, or create content topics from files. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Manage Files icon.

After clicking the Manage Files icon, you will be taken to the main folder of your D2L course. Any files uploaded to your course will be displayed here. From the main files page, you can upload, delete, create new folders, move, copy, paste, zip, and unzip files to the course.

Upload Files
To begin uploading files from your computer to your D2L space, select the Upload icon from the main files page.
. If you wish to upload the file to a specific folder, you must click the folder first from the main files page prior to clicking the Upload icon.
A new window will pop up asking you to browse for the file you wish to upload. Click the browse button to locate and double click the item you wish upload to the course. The path location of the file will now be displayed in the box, click the upload button to upload the file.

D2L will begin uploading the file. Upon completion of the upload, the main files directory will refresh and the file you uploaded will now be visible.
Cut and Paste Files
If you have files that you wish to have moved to a different folder, you can do so using the Cut and Paste tools.
From the main files page, locate the files you wish to move and check the boxes to the left of their names. Click the Cut icon at the top of the page.

Navigate to the folder you wish to have the files pasted to, and select the Paste button. The files you checked will now be pasted to the designated folder.

Copy and Paste Files
If you have files that you wish to have copied to a different folder and still remain in the original location, you can do so using the Copy and Paste tools.
From the main files page, locate the files you wish to move and check the boxes to the left of their names. Click the Copy icon at the top of the page.

Navigate to the folder you wish to have the files pasted to, and select the Paste button. The files you checked will now be pasted to the designated folder.

Delete Files/Folders
From the main files screen, you can Delete unwanted files and folders from your D2L space.
Check the boxes next to the files and folders you wish to delete. Click the Delete icon at the top of the page.

You will be prompted to delete the selected files and folders. Confirm this decision by selecting OK.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU CLICK OK, THESE FILES WILL BE PERMANENTLY DELETED.

Zip/Unzip Files
For instructors that wish to download more than one of the course files from the D2L site to a computer, the Zip files tool can compress many files into a single file. The zip file can then be extracted at any time, revealing the multiple files.
To zip files, check the boxes next to the files and folders you wish to add to the zip file. Once all the files and folders have been selected, click the Zip files icon at the top of the page.

A new download window will open up. Save the document to you computer. This file can now be emailed, uploaded to other D2L courses, or stored on a flash drive.

If you wish to upload a zipped file to your D2L course, you can UnZip its contents to your course.
Upload the Zip file to your course using the Upload icon. D2L will refresh and display the zip file. To the right of the zip file will be an unzip Icon
, click this to begin the UnZip process. A new window will popup asking whether or not you wish to continue with the UnZip. Select OK to continue. The files will now be extracted to your D2L course.

Groups
The Groups tool allows you to set up, edit, or enroll users in groups; create group work areas. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Groups icon.

From the Manage Groups screen, you can now begin creating/editing/deleting groups as needed. Please see our Groups page to learn more about the Groups tool.

Import/Export/Copy Components
The Import/Export/Copy Components tool allows you to import course components from a file or copy them from another org unit and export components to a zip file. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Import/Export/Copy Compenents icon.

From the Import/Export/Copy Compenents page, you will now have the option to copy components from another Org Unit, Export Components, or Import Components from a file. Click the radio button next to the option you wish to pursue and hit Next. You will be prompted through a series of screens based on your choice. NavBars
The NavBars tool allows you to change the links that appear on the navigation bar or change the colors and background image. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Navbars icon.

You will be taken to the Edit Navigation Bar screen.

From the Edit Navigation Bar screen, you can change your NavBar template and the links that are displayed in the top left, top right, bottom left, and bottom right portions of the NavBar. For more detailed in formation, please see our help page on the NavBar.
Sections
The Sections tool allows you to set up, edit, or enroll users in sections. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Sections icon.

You will be taken to a Manage Sections screen, where you can Add sections, Delete sections, View sections, and Enroll users into sections.

Tools
The Tools icon allows you to rename the tools in your D2L course. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the Tools icon.

You will be taken to the main Tools screen, where you can begin customizing the way tools are displayed in your course.

To change the Display Name of a Tool, click the box for the Display Name next to the Tool you wish to rename. Input the new name you wish to have the Tool called and select Save. The tool will now be displayed with the new display name in the Navigation Bar.


User Progress
The User Progress icon allows you to view user activity for individual users enrolled in this Course Offering, including login history, participation in discussions, content access, and grades. To access this tool, from the Course Admin Tools page, click the User Progress icon.

You will be taken to the User Progress screen, where you can select which user you wish to view by selecting their name from the dropdown box. D2L will update and display login history, participation in discussions, content access, and grades.

Using the dropdown menu next to Tool: on the User Progress page you can view information for each student's use of a particular tool. For instance, if you have the Discussions tool you can see student information for Discussions. Only the tools you use will be listed in the dropdown menu.
