1. Edit:  Add or remove links from the navigation bar

For easier navigation for students, edit the navigation bar (navbar) so just the links that are needed are present.

The navbar can be edited at any time and doesn't have to be "set" prior to the start of a course.

  1. Hover over the navigation bar and click on the dropdown menu to the extreme right (gray box with three dots inside).

  3. If the dialgue box appears asking "Create a Copy?" click on the Yes! I'll work with a copy of the navbar button.  If this box does not appear continue with the next steps.image of dialogue box asking if a copy should be made with yes circled


  4. Edit the Name of the navbar
  5. To remove links on the navbar: hover over the link you want to remove and click the ximage of edit navgar page with x on a link circcled to remove the link from navbar
  6. To change the order of the links, click on a link and drag it to a different position on the navbar.

  8. The "theme" determines the logo that appears at the top left of your navigation bar.  To change it, click on Change theme.image of edit navbar page with change theme button circled

  10. Click Update
  11. Click Save and Close to save the changes to your navbar.

2. Add: The course image to your course homepage

You can add the tile image as the course home banner on the course homepage

By adding the banner, you can add some color to the course homepage.

  1. Hover over the tile image of the course.
  2. Click on the context menu (the square with three white dots).
  3. Select Course Offering Information.
  4. Scroll down to the section that says Homepage Banner
  5. Click on the checkbox Display the image in a banner on the course homepage.
  6. Click Save.

    To remove or change a banner, please go to the next section.

3. Change: Remove or select a different image for your course banner

D2L places a random banner on your course home page.  You can remove or change it to better represent the course

Option I:  Remove the banner or select a new one from the existing bank of images

  1. Click on the dropdown settings menu on the far right of the image (small square with 3 white dots inside)
  2. To remove the banner altogether, select Remove this Banner

Option II: Upload a banner from your computer

  1. Click on the dropdown settings menu on the far right of the image (small square with 3 white dots inside)

  4. On the next page scroll down to the Course Image section and click on the Browse button

    Note: The recommended image size is 2400 x 900 pixels.

  5. Click on My ComputerImage Of Add a File dialogue box with My Computer selected
  6. Click on the Upload button (or drag and drop an image into the box and skip to step 9).
  7. Select the image on your compute.r
  8. Click the Open button.
  9. Click the Add button.
  10. Click the Save button.

4. Post:  Place an announcement on your course home page

Steps to put an announcement on your home page

These steps explain how to quickly place an announcement on your home page. More detail about using announcements is located on the Announcement help page

  1. Click on the actions for announcements dropdown menu (click on the inverted chevron to the right of the word Announcements).

  3. Enter a title for the announcement in the Headline box.
  4. Enter the announcement text in the Content box.  You can format text, add links and add images using the html editor.  These are the minimum settings needed to post an announcement
