Instructor: Evaluate Submissions

1. Evaluate: Submissions

To leave feedback and enter a score on a student's submission:

 

  1. Click the Assignments tab on your course navigation bar.
  2. Click the name of the submission folder you would like to leave feedback/score for.view submissions

     

  3. Find the student to leave feedback and/or a grade for and click the Evaluate link to the right of the student's name.evaluate student submission link

     

  4. Enter a grade for the student in the Score field.score field in evaluate student submission

    Note: If you do not see the score box it means no Score Out of value has been entered. Edit the assignment, enter the Score Out of value, then return to grading.​

  5. If you have chosen a selectbox grade item, you may select a letter grade in lieu of a score. To learn more see selectbox grade items.Image of selectbox letter grade options

    Note: If you are using a rubric to grade the assignment and you don't want students to see a numerical score, make sure to use No Score in the rubric.​

  6. Enter any comments you may have for the student in the Feedback box.
  7. You may also Add a FileRecord Audio, and/or Record Video.student submission feedback field and publish or save as draft buttons

     

  8. Click the Publish button to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, click the Save Draft button to save your work without releasing it to the student.

2. Evaluate: New Submissions - New Feature!

To leave feedback and enter a score on a student's new submission:

 

  1. Click the number of new submissions in the folder you would like to leave feedback/score for.view new submissions column

     

    Note: This link does not work for group assignments.​

  2. You will be directed to a new submission to evaluate.
  3. Enter a grade for the student in the Score field.score field in evaluate student submission

    Note: If you do not see the score box it means no Score Out of value has been entered. Edit the assignment, enter the Score Out of value, then return to grading.​

  4. If you have chosen a selectbox grade item, you may select a letter grade in lieu of a score. To learn more see selectbox grade items.Image of selectbox letter grade options

3. Evaluate: Anonymous Submissions

To leave feedback, enter a score and publish anonymous submissions:

  1. Click the Assignments tab on your course navigation bar.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to the name of the submission folder you would like to leave feedback/score for and select View Submissions.view submissions drop-down arrow

     

  3. Select a student to leave feedback and/or a grade for and click the Evaluate link to the right of the student's name.evaluate student submission link

     

  4. Enter a grade for the student in the Score field.score field in evaluate student submission

    Note: If you do not see the score box it means no Score Out of value has been entered. Edit the assignment, enter the Score Out of value, then return to grading.​

  8. Click the Save Draft to save the score and feedback.  When using anonymous grading, individual scores and feedback cannot be published.  Scores and feedback must be published for all students at the same time.
  9. After finishing evaluating students, return to the list of submissions and click on the Publish All Feedback button to publish the feedback to the students.List of submissions in an assignment with the Publish All Feedback circled

4. Evaluate: Submissions Log

To view a list of files submitted to the Assignment Submission Folders, including deleted and restored submissions: 

  1. Click the Assignments tab on your course navigation bar.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to the name of the submission folder you would like to leave feedback/score for and select View Submissions.view submissions drop-down arrow

     

  3. Click the Submission Log button.student submission log button

5. Evaluate: Using Annotations

To evaluate a student's submission using the Annotations toolbar:

 

When the eraser function is selected, the mouse cursor becomes a white circle.

Note: The eraser can delete the free-hand highlighter but not the text highlighter. To delete the text highlighter, click anywhere in the highlighted text and click the trash can in the upper right corner.

  1. Click the Assignments tab on your course navigation bar.
  2. Click the name of the submission folder you would like to leave feedback/score for.view submissions

     

  3. Find the student to evaluate the submission for and click the Evaluate link to the right of the student's name.evaluate student submission link

     

  4. Click the file name to open for evaluation with Annotations toolbar.select submission

     

  5. The Annotations toolbar will appear above the file. You will be able to Highlight, add Notes, make Text comments right on the paper, draw Lines, Arrows, and Rectangles, even draw freehand. Toggle Fullscreen will fit the file to your screen, click Esc at any time to exit the fullscreen view.Annotations toolbar

     

  6. An additional toolbar will appear below the main toolbar when you select a feature to use. Options such as color, shape, and size can be set.Annotations detail toolbar

     

  7. There are a couple of ways to add an annotation to the student submission. You can highlight an area of text or double click the text to bring up the toolbar to Highlight, Underline, or Strikethrough text.Annotations highlight and double click option

     

  8. Another option is to click the text you want to mark, then pick the tool you want to use. If you make a mistake with an annotation simply click the annotation and then click the trash can that appears in the right hand corner to delete the annotation.Delete Annotation

     

  9. The eraser allows you to erase free-hand placed lines, highlighter, or text.Eraser

     

  10. Enter a grade for the student in the Score field.score field in evaluate student submission

    Note: If you do not see the score box it means the assignment is not connected to a grade item. Edit the assignment and connect the grade item, then return to grading.

  11. Enter any comments you may have for the student in the Feedback box.
  12. You may also Add a FileRecord Audio, and/or Record Video.student submission feedback field and publish or save as draft buttons

     

  13. Click the Publish button to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, click the Save Draft button to save your work without releasing it to the student.
