Instructor: Import/Export/Copy Components

1. Copy: all course components from one course to another

Copy a previous course site to a new one.

  1. Go to the D2L course site you want to copy materials TO and click Course Admin.Screen shot of navigation bar with Course Admin circled

     

  2. Under the Site Resources category, click the Import/Export/Copy Components link.image of Course Admin link list with import export copy components link circled

  4. Search for and select the course you'd like to copy course materials from.  It is not necessary to enter a search term.image of search box with search icon circled

  6. Click the Copy All Components button.

2. Copy: Specific components from one course to another

Copy parts of a course site to a new one ie. just the grade book or just content.

  4. Search for and select the course you'd like to copy course materials from.  It is not necessary to enter a search term.image of search box with search icon circled

  7. Select the course materials you would like to copy:Image of Choose Components to Copy Window with Content checked and Continue button circledAll items in a category can be copied (all of content, for example) or you can copy individual items within a category (for example just one specific module in content) by clicking on the Select individual items to copy option.
     
  8. Click the Continue button.
  9. If you did not select the Select individual items to copy option, click the Finish button*.

    b. Click Continue.
    c. Click Finish.

3. Import: Import a course from another Learning Management System

Import a course into D2L that has been exported out from another Learning Management System.

Course packaged from other Learning Management Systems can be imported into D2L.  The Learning Management System from which the package comes must produce an IMS CP or QTI (if importing quizzes) compliant course package.

Note: Course packages from the following platforms can be imported:  Brightspace by D2L, Blackboard Learn v. 6/7/8/9, Angel Learning v. 7/8, Moodle v. 1.9/2.3, Pearson eCollege and UCompass.

  2. Under the Site Resources category, click the Import/Export/Copy Components link.image of Course Admin link list with import export copy components link circled
  3. Select Import Components.
  4. Verify that from a course package is selected.

  6. Drag and drop the package file exported out of the prior Learning Management system or click on the Upload button and navigate to the file on your computer.  Depending on the size of the package it could take some time for the file to upload.
  7. Click on the Import All Components button.

4. Export: Export a course site out of D2L

Instructors can export a course  into a package that can be imported into another Learning Management System.

  1. Go to the D2L course site you want to export materials From and click Course Admin.Screen shot of navigation bar with Course Admin circled
  2. Click on Export Components.
  3. Click on the Start button.screenshot of import/export/copn components with Export components and Start button circled

     

  4. Click the checkbox next to Select All Components to export the entire course, or select individual components you wish to include.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Verify your selections on the next page and click Continue.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Click the link Click here to download the export Zip package.screnshot of the export summary window with the click here to dowload the export zip package circled.

     

  9. Save the file on your computer.
  10. Click Done.
